In my previous research, I investigated neural correlates of disembodiment experiences in experimentally induced dissociative states, with a particular focus on interoceptive processing, utilising EEG and heartbeat-evoked potentials. My master's thesis aimed to identify psychopathological characteristics of patients with major depressive disorder who do not respond to one first-line SSRI but may benefit from another, grounded in their distinct neural characteristics and phenomenological symptom profiles. During my PhD, I hope to contribute to a better understanding of the role of interoceptive processes, focusing mainly on the gut-brain axis, in shaping our affective experience and behaviour, particularly in the context of feelings of disgust.
