This research line investigates the:
- cognitive and emotional processes underlying awareness of one's own or other's death;
- psychophysiological and neural modulations underpinning the notion of mortality that accompanies the human existence.
Individuals imagining their own death or suffering from psychiatric trauma induced by loss of significant others will be tested in behavioral and neurophysiological paradigms exploring the link between pain in the body and in the mind.
The laser evoked potential (LEPs) technique, adept to selectively probe the nociceptive system and the experience of pain, will be the election one for these studies.
